EVRYTHNG Joins ARM on Internet of Things Initiative

EVRYTHNG has joined up with ARM and a number of other technology companies forming the Internet of Things Architecture Forum

25 February 2013 – London & Zurich.

EVRYTHNG, the Web of Things software company that makes products smart by connecting them to the Web, has joined with ARM and a number of other technology organisations forming the Internet of Things Architecture Forum to make it easier to build and deploy connected products and internet of things applications.

EVRYTHNG and ARM have been collaborating for some time and have developed a connection toolkit as part of ARM’s mbed.org program for microcontrollers to provide any embedded controller, based on the ARM architecture, with a Web identity using EVRYTHNG’s software Engine. EVRYTHNG demonstrated the technology at WIRED UK’s annual conference in October 2012, where consumer devices were connected to the Web, and web applications could be rapidly created to control and interact with them.

“ARM is helping to create the right environment in which the Internet of Things can flourish,” said Gary Atkinson, director, Embedded Segment, ARM. “We design the technology that is shipped in tens of billions of microprocessor units, which can be found in all kinds of devices and products, from anti-braking systems to units in smart lighting. These new types of products have the intelligence and smart connectivity needed to enable the next steps in our world’s online evolution. ARM is also helping smart devices to combine the right amount of compute performance with ultra-low power, which can drive lower energy consumption worldwide.”

“Software and Web connectivity are making it possible to make everyday products and industrial equipment smart. The Internet of Things is fast emerging as the next major wave of innovation, alongside the mobile internet and social networks,” said Niall Murphy, founder and CEO of EVRYTHNG.

EVRYTHNG co-founders Dr. Vlad Trifa and Dr. Dominique Guinard pioneered technology to connect physical objects to the Web at the Pervasive Computing Institute of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich) and founded WebOfThings.org, the preeminent online community for developers and academics. This technology forms the basis of EVRYTHNG’s software Engine which helps manufacturers connect directly with customers and partners through their own products, using smartphones and intelligent identities for physical objects on the Web.

EVRYTHNG is engaged in a number of other industry collaboration projects, including working with IBM, the World Wide Web Consortium (through ERCIM), Universities from across Europe, several other technology companies and the Barcelona Supercomputing Centre on a three-year EU project called ‘COMPOSE’ to develop and provide a technical framework for Internet of Things applications and services to connect with each other, and making it fast and easy to bring them to market.

EVRYTHNG is a Web of Things software company, making products smart by connecting them to the Web. EVRYTHNG helps manufacturers connect directly with customers and partners through their own products, using smartphones and intelligent identities for physical products on the Web.

The technology at the heart of making products smart is the EVRYTHNG Engine, which makes it easy to turn any physical thing into a channel for personalized digital services, one-to-one communications and ongoing relationships, tied to transactions.

By making products smart, EVRYTHNG’s technology helps world-leading brands get closer to their customers and access real-time data analytics about how their products are being made, sold and used.

With an exceptionally strong founding team – including CEO Niall Murphy (The Cloud), and CMO Andy Hobsbawm (Agency.com) – EVRYTHNG was founded in 2011 and is backed by Skype Founder Niklas Zennstrom’s Atomico Ventures and private investors.

About The Internet of Things Architecture Forum (‘IoTA Forum’)

The Internet of Things Architecture Forum (‘IoTA Forum’) aims to bring together role players from different parts of the Internet of Things ecosystem – including silicon providers, device manufacturers, application developers, software tools and networks – to ensure standards and effective methods for these various components to work together are worked out, bringing applications to market faster and more easily.

The Forum currently includes EVRYTHNG, ARM, home energy firm Alertme, cloud-aware sensing provider AquaMW, lighting maker EnLight and white space wireless provider Neul – and is expanding to include device manufactures and service providers.
